What it calculates
Amount at risk = balance × risk %
Units = amount at risk ÷ (stop in pips × pip value per unit)
Units = amount at risk ÷ (stop in pips × pip value per unit)
With $5,000 and 1% risk ($50) on a 20-pip stop in EUR/USD, the result is 25,000 units, or 0.25 lots. If the stop is hit, the loss is about $50 plus costs.
Why it matters
Crypto traders often size positions by how much they want to make. Professional risk management starts from how much you can afford to lose. Stops can slip in fast markets, so real losses can exceed the figure shown. Check margin with the margin calculator.
